Characters | Tracks & Cups | Battle Mode
About After the success of SMK a sequal for the N64 was clear. Although it returned with less tracks and no special items it did have many great new additions. Firstly they got rid of having tracks like Mario Circuit 1, Mario Circuit 2 and Mario Circuit 3. The tracks were now longer twice as long and each set in their own unique location. And with the tracks now in proper 3D jumps and bumps made for more tricky racing.
The departure of Koopa Troopa disapointed many fans but the addition of Wario balanced the weight classes. Also Donkey Kong Jr was replaced with Donkey Kong (originally though Magi Koopa was meant to appear in this game titled as Super Mario Kart R).
The battle mode areans and large and experienced players could easily spend over 20 minutes trying to knock each other. Finally the extra m[ode appeared which allowed you to play on mirroed (not backwards) versions of the tracks at a difficulty harder than 150cc.

If you want an average racer then choose Mario. As always he has average speed, average acceleration, average weight and average hair. There is nothing special about him in any way.

Again, average. Slightly faster than Mario and a bit lighter but nothing of note. He's Luigi, he's average but a slightly less average version of Mario.

Lighter and faster than Luigi and she also has a good little hop. Not really used professinally by many, but if you have a little girl cousin or something, then she'll like her.

My personal favourite. 2nd fastest with good handling and solid acceleration. Many people choose him but only 1 get to play as him.

The fastest of the lot. He is very quick and nippy and has some good turning. But all of this comes at a price, and that is weight. If you get stuck behind Bowser or DK at the start and then boost straight into them, you're going to spin out.

The beast. A bit slow for some but he has got the strength to match. A simple look at a light-weight will send them spinning for six.

The slowest of the game and heavier than Bowser. He does have very tight stearing but it will take some work to win in the higher level GPs as this guy.

The new guy. Faster than Bowser and DK, but that's about it. Stll heavy enough to send Toad spinning with a simple hit but beyond that he's not good for much. Although control isn't to bad.
Tracks & CupsIt did feature less tracks than SMK (having only 4 tracks a cup instead of 5) but they were some very good tracks.
Mushroom Cup

Luigi Raceway: Easy peasy. A simple track with few to no obstacles. Some turns and a tunnel but not much to worry about. It's only here to get you into the racing mood.
Moo Moo Farm: Already confirmed to be in MKDS this is a track loved by many and hated by the rest. Very wide and easy this track features moles that will slow you down should you drive into them, but they are your only worry.
Koopa Troopa Beach: An omidge to the dear departed Koopa Troopa with this grate track. A short cut through one of the rocks can only be reached with a speed burst and a good jump, but it'll save you alot of time.
Kalamri Desert: A train speeds around this road and you must cross it's track twice a lap. Just remember to stop as its not worth drving into it.
Flower Cup

Toad's Turnpike: The only track to feature other cars. Set on a motorway this is a tricky track (espically in Extra mode when the cars are going the other way).
Frappe Snowland: The first snow track features exploding snowmen. It also has a giant Mario statue to drive past (it's easier to go round the back of it).
Choco Mountain: You know where this devil of a track came from? When playing SMB people freqently said 'Those blocks look like chocolate'. Please don't do it again.
Mario Raceway: Just like mario it is average. There isn't much I can say about this track other than it looks like an upside-down sheep.
Star Cup

Wario Stadium: One of the best in the game (and longest). You want a good tip? If you get a lightning bolt then watch the map and don't use it till people approach the second jump.
Sherbet Land: The second snow track, this one is set on ice to make slippy racing. I would hate this track if it wasn't for all the penguins.
Royal Raceway: This track has the setting for the awards at the end of a cup (and SM64). You can go drive around if you like but it's not part of the actually race track.
Bowser's Castle: Thwomps, lava and bushes, this track has the lot. What is that green thing in the cage anyway?
Special Cup

DK's Jungle Parkway: No, you cannot land on the boat no matter how hard you try. And watch the shortcut in the cave. You can save alot of time going up their but if you go up a part that's too steap you'll only waste time.
Yoshi Valley: You won't know what position you are in untill you finish cause this track is a maze. Many different routes will lead you to the exit, but I won't tell you which route I go.
Banshee Broadwalk: The ghost track of the game. Set an a broken old pier it features many sharp turns and abscent walls. The darkness gives you poor visibility and the ghosts only hamper you further.
Raunbow Road: The longest track in the game, the only thing that keeps your attention up is the multi-coloured road and occasional Chain Chomp. Maybe if they didn't have walls all the way round this track would be better.
3 Balloons each, if you're hit you loose a balloon, last one standing wins. This is personally my favourite MK multiplayer as it has the added bonus of becoming a bomb. Should you loose all your balloons and there are 2 or more characters left standing then you can drive around as a Bob-omb and take out anyone you like, loosing them a balloon instantly.

Big Donut: Sadly this track is not set on a giant dough based product, but it's still good. A very large donut shaped track with a bit of lava in the middle. Not the best track for shells since greens are lost in the middle and reds can be destroyed by one of the walls. But foe stationary objects like bananas and fake item boxes you've got a great arena.
Block Fort: A giant of an arena, my personal favourite. 4 large coloured blocks with mutliple levels make for cat and mouse games. Try and stay off the ground floor as green shells patrol them with intent on destruction. Also if you're driving acroos one of the bridges try and litter it with bananas and fake items to trip others up. Also put bananas on the ramps of the yellow block.
Double Deck: Even bigger than Block Fort and even move levels. Battles here can last ages and some items are near useless. If you can snipe with green shells then youve got a strong adventage. A tip is to go to the top and sit on top an item box, then just fire at anyone that comes by.
Skysraper: A bit of an odd course for Mario really, as it's quite real. On top of a skyscrpaer, this arena is the smallest and has a distinct absence of walls. Their are also holes in certain parts of the track that can be jumped but don't risk it.
